In 2002, David Piper and Knute Ogren,
two church workers at Emanuel Lutheran Church
in Hartford, began
brainstorming ways to help young people learn more about those who were
dying of hunger. It occurred to them that they could bring a bunch of
guys together to make music and create a CD.
Their idea was that every
penny donated in exchange for the CD would be used to fight hunger and
that all the money raised would be given to the ELCA (Evangelical
Lutheran Church in America) World Hunger Appeal.
Knute serves as
Coordinator of Congregational Life, challenging the status quo,
supporting staff and lay leaders, and empowering members to help make a
difference.
