MacDonald Bray is a naturalist at
Lakeside Nature Center
in Swope Park – an 1,800 acre park in the heart of Kansas City,
Missouri. In addition to rescuing and caring for injured wild animals,
Susan guides classes of children on a tour of the park. For many
children it is their first experience with a wildlife preserve. The most
common question the children ask is, “Is it real?” when they see an
animal. Susan has cared for an injured Great Horned Owl for the past 22
years. The owl has bonded with her and often will give her gifts…such as
a little leftover mouse.
